Life is amazing 😀😀😀 when: I realised what I am doing today could've helped me in the past...
Let me explain; In about 2004/5/6, Mental Health First Aid didn't really exist. At the time, I was living through my mental health experience, I was right in the middle of it, without realising.
My experiences in the past are the reasons why I am a Mental Health First Aid Instructor. I have experienced suicide thoughts and behaviours, depression, anxiety and self-medication, all whilst hiding behind a façade. Smiley, extrovert and oblivious to my poor mental health. I was not in a good place and help would've been amazing, a Mental Health First Aider would've been life-changing.
I’m now a Counsellor-in-training to support my passion and motivation for this complicated and misunderstood topic.
A Mental Health First Aider provides first aid, approaches people in distress with a 'how are you?', a 'how can I help?', allowing the person to feel safe enough to open up. How amazing is it to make a space that is accepting of emotion. Talked about feelings, being listened to, without being judged and without being bombarded with, 'man up' and 'come on, cheer up', or 'crack on'.
So there you go, life is amazing as a Mental Health First Aid Instructor!
Especially now I realise that the training I am delivering today to so many people would've helped me in the past, and/or, the future 👍
Have a great day...
